The PES project is located in the southeast of Berlin in the Köpenick district, on Pestalozzistraße, spanning two opposite plots. This residential development comprises a total of 72 apartments.
In response to the demand for smaller apartments in this area and the economic considerations of the project, the aim was to achieve optimal utilization of living spaces and minimize non-residential areas. In accordance with the urban planning design, zoning plan, and defined distances and areas, three buildings will be placed on the plots. These buildings are separated by shared green spaces, children's play areas, bicycle parking, and separate entrances for parking.
The design of green spaces and pathways on the courtyard side of the project creates a safe and tranquil space, distancing itself from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The T-shaped arrangement of the buildings posed challenges in planning the floor plans concerning the width of the street frontage and the depth of the site. Two underground garages were planned for both plots of the project, one with a ramp and the other with a car lift, providing a total of 62 parking spaces for residents. These garages also house technical and service areas as well as MEP installations.
The terraces of the project are interconnected to offer different perspectives and views of the various facades. The facades feature materials such as glass and aluminum, which adopt a coloration under sunlight inspired by the urban structure. This diversity and visual connection between the terraces create an innovative and modern form of outdoor living that reflects the urban structure and the surrounding nature.
Communal spaces for interaction have been designated on the green rooftop of the project. These are separated by a combination of pathways and photovoltaic installations. Each unit on the top floor has direct access to individual areas on the project's rooftop. In designing the green courtyard, private areas for each unit were included and separated from the common areas for children's and teenagers' games and activities.
